Comment: The comanionway is all masked off. Ed's feet got all nicely painted white. The rough areas of the deck were left 'blank' - except for the overspray. These areas will be masked off and painted by brush later.
radicalconstruction05 * Feb '97. We bought Clamduck, and moved it by truck to our front driveway. This had to be done while our back roads were still frozen. We assembled the cradle, and got the boat settled. Then the work began. * 705 x 449 * (112KB)

radicalconstruction06 * There was so much to do....where to start? Because spring was arriving, we decided to work on the outside while we had good weather. The first step was to prepare the deck. First ALL the fittings had to come off. (This is actually the deck after it is painted) * 570 x 847 * (120KB)

radicalconstruction07 * July '97. The old wood toerail was removed, and all the bolt holes filled with epoxy. The old rub rail along the sides was also removed, filled and faired. We went through about 1200 sanding disks on the orbital sanders. The boat just looked worse and worse the more we worked! * 842 x 596 * (186KB)

radicalconstruction08 * The painting area. The hull and deck took all summer to prepare. (After all, we still had full time jobs!) Now it's September, and time to paint! Note how we have built a proper set of steps with railing up to the transom of the boat. It was far too hard to climb a ladder all the time with your hands full. * 866 x 615 * (141KB)

radicalconstruction09 * Ed painted the deck with a spray gun. We used AwlGrip. * 443 x 696 * (121KB)

radicalconstruction12 * This time, we had Ed's brother Dave do the work with the spray gun.We built scaffolding all the way around the boat. This is the primer coat. * 876 x 600 * (166KB)

radicalconstruction13 * Dave sprayed on 2 coats of Claret AwlGrip. * 871 x 600 * (166KB)

radicalconstruction14 * The bottom was masked off and primered. * 876 x 605 * (147KB)

radicalconstruction15 * Another coat * 892 x 597 * (170KB)
