radicalconstruction16 * This is the boat as it sat in front of our house for 3 years. * 838 x 406 * (114KB)
radicalconstruction17 * We even did the antifouling - but this was a bit optimistic, looking back on it. * 854 x 408 * (131KB)
radicalconstruction18 * Sept '98. This is the vinyl stiripe going on. * 884 x 596 * (202KB)
radicalconstruction19 * And the name was also done in vinyl. Our sister in law Anna did the graphics for the name. * 847 x 521 * (167KB)
radicalconstruction20 * The waterline was painted on before winter set in...meanwhile, we started working inside the boat. During the summer, Ed had buried a cable from the workshop to the boat for light and heat. * 881 x 605 * (193KB)

radicalconstruction21 * THE DECK
This is how the deck's antiskid was painted. First, one half (in a checkerboard pattern) is masked off and painted. This allows you to still walk around on the deck while the one part is drying. * 572 x 872 * (157KB)
radicalconstruction22 * Then the other half is masked off and painted. We just used a disposable bristle brush for the painting. * 880 x 598 * (156KB)
radicalconstruction23 * The colour was a bit dark, and the deck got pretty hot in the sun. Should have gone lighter (and we did, when we repainted years later!). This shows detail of the deck - the mast hole is in the center of the photo. * 1741 x 1160 * (2.06MB)
radicalconstruction24 * We kept the mast hole covered against rain. * 1779 x 1166 * (2.11MB)
radicalconstruction25 * The windows all were removed. We recaulked and put the stainless frames back on. The sail tracks were re-installed, and so is the toe rail. This all was a lot of work. This photo is taken later on, when we have the deck fills on. * 600 x 904 * (151KB)

radicalconstruction26 * The toe rail has 240 bolts - all holes were drilled oversized, filled with epoxy and redrilled. This prevents water from getting to the balsa core deck. The toe rail is aluminum extrusion, anodized. * 1758 x 1133 * (2.03MB)
radicalconstruction27 * This is the deck fills on the other side of the boat. There are 3 water and 2 fuel. * 1723 x 1183 * (2.03MB)
radicalconstruction29 * A view of the deck, looking aft. The traveler was removed, painted and put back on with backing plates. * 864 x 560 * (138KB)
radicalconstruction30 * A Lewmar electric windlass was installed. The bow fitting came with the boat, but we added nylon rollers. The chain is new because the boat came only with rope rode. * 1725 x 1152 * (2.11MB)
radicalconstruction31 * Looking up from under the bow. * 1801 x 1167 * (1.56MB)
